Bernies
The Bernie Series
Just after Obama's inauguration, a meme started flying around the Internet, of Bernie Sanders shivering in his mitts at the inauguration ceremony. For anyone who missed it, this photo of Bernie, seated (see below) was superimposed onto an ever changing variety of background locations, which varied from silly to preposterous! These images went viral. It was hilarious and charming and put a good, kind man, centre stage.
I researched his mitts - they were home knitted gifts from an admirer. So I did similar - I made a tiny Bernie and gave it to my sister, Lucy. I liked him so much, I made some more and gave them to people who wanted to donate €100 to UNICEF in honour of his lifelong humanitarian work.

“It was a stroke of genius to turn that iconic photo of Bernie into a figurine! Everyone, whatever their politics, loved the sight of him in his mitts, opting out of the glitz. Having this little fella sitting on your sideboard is like having a lucky charm to keep the demons at bay.”

"On August 11, 2021 I received my Bernie Sanders! This small sculpture of Bernie, inspired by his memorable appearance at the presidential inauguration-seated in the cold with his signature mittens- is a remarkable work of art. The craftsmanship is exceptional, capturing both the life and spirit of the moment with impressive accuracy and fine detail. Bernie was shipped from Kenmare, Ireland to Centreville, Virginia and arrived in pristine condition.
An added highlight was that it required a donation to UNICEF to purchase Bernie. I donated 100 euros to UNICEF making this sculpture not only a delightful collectible but also a purchase with a wonderful blend of art, humor and purpose!"
