A collection of previous work from my Kenmare studio
This portfolio showcases a selection of my previous sculptures. I invite you to explore the gallery and read the reflections of those who have bought, commissioned or were gifted these pieces
Spanish Village House
"Gill made this sculpture of a miniature of my village house in Granada, Spain, as a gift for our family. It was like all the work we had put in to renovating the house was repeated in Gill's little sculpture. Here, the delight is in the detail!
... the front door curtain, the little ceramic tile with the house number, the wooden shutters, even the door of the electric box! Everything was sculpted precisely to scale and she even included the missing brick on the corner of the house.
Her incredible ability to fashion clay into wood, ceramic, metal and stone is uncanny. Gill captured the little Andalusian soul of the house and we couldn't have been happier."

'Cat Looking Up, Cat Looking Down' – Limited Edition Duo
"This two-piece verdigris bronze sculpture takes my breath away. There's something electric in the moment of connection between the cats, as if it's happening in real time. Even from a few metres away, you can sense tension in their bodies and fixity in the way their eyes interlock. As you go closer, the more alive they become. Every aspect of their attentiveness has been captured with extraordinary subtlety and precision.
There is something rhythmic in the way they’ve been sculpted so that their beautiful contours flow towards each other. The mottle in the patina is exactly like rippling fur, giving them a mysterious glow. They have pride of place on our mantelpiece, and I often feel compelled to hold them because they are so smooth and have such a satisfying weight. They’ve been seen, held and greatly admired, by numerous friends and neighbours. Genius!"

A Tiny Golden Violin:
Hand-Painted Original
"Brilliant work Gill. I absolutely love the fiddle you made for me."

Hand-Sculpted Feline Original: Painted Polymer Clay
"I bought this pair of cats because I was struck by the depth of this sculptor's observation and her ability to reveal the lightness and innate grace of these exquisite creatures.
Anyone who has lived with and loved cats will recognize the fleeting moment held by each pose. Their two forms balance and compliment the other.

Serene and unhurried. Quizzical and deeply content. In other words, they are the very essence of a cat: Pleased and pleasing".

Bernie: The Iconic Original
"Gill created this Exquisite Sculpture of 'Bernie' who sits on my Windowsill while I Make Coffee each Morning so We can have a discussion about the State of the Nation!
A Remarkedly Perfect Replica of him during the Pandemic with his Mittens and Mask and Green Parka since He represents Green State of Vermont! There He sits with his legs crossed keeping warm and I vision him listening and ready to speak while Campaigning in the Frigid Wintertime!
Truly an Icon in this Day and Age with Tremendous Perspective! Thankyou Gill, Only One Bernie
and you captured him"

'Cat Looking Up, Cat Looking Down' – Limited Edition Duo
"On the physical plane, I love the way they feel, their weight, silky smoothness; the way the light accentuates the different parts of their bodies; the ripple of the muscle that seems just below the hard surface; the patina, the way they look poised for action and comfortably still at the same time.
On the emotional/spiritual/something else plane, these cats are a potent, but quiet presence. They are interesting and’ calming to look at. My mind wanders to what they’ll do next. That explains why they’ve never made it off the kitchen table near where I sit to email, etc. Right now, they share space with a solar powered prayer wheel and some nasturtium seeds that are drying for next year. I like them nearby".

Shirley & The Horse: A 90th Birthday Surprise
"I love it, and cannot believe how you've managed to get such a good likeness. Brilliant Gill, thank you so much, it has got pride of place on my mantle peace."

Wole Soyinka
"This tiny figurine of Wole Soyinka is one of my most prized possessions -- partly because of the loving spirit in which it was made and given. As a consolation for my dashed hopes when Soyinka was not elected as Oxford Professor of Poetry, it works beautifully. Standing just beside my desk, it reminds me every day of his inspiring eloquence. I love every detail in the minutely crafted piece -- his defiant stance at the lectern, his tiny steel-rimmed spectacles, his glorious halo of silver hair. From top to toe, this is a vividly *theatrical* portrait of Soyinka's genius -- and what could be more appropriate? Thank you, Gill, for this lovely gift, which I’ll always treasure."

A Tiny Golden Violin:
Hand-Painted Original
"I received this exquisite miniature golden violin as a gift after my real violin was accidentally run over by a car. The piece arrived in an elegant box and is crafted with remarkable attention to detail.
Beyond its beauty, it feels as though it was created with genuine love-radiating what I can only describe as the golden frequency of love. It holds a perfect, eternal pitch that resonates with the heart.
I deeply cherish this meaningful and symbolic gift."

Martin Kraut
Martin Kraut, a dear friend and a fine fiddle player and luthier, I had heard on the grapevine, was secretly making me a violin. He'd made a few violins for his friends in the past and I felt very honoured. But I also felt a bit embarrassed at the thought of being presented with so huge a gift and so I decided to make him a sculpture in return, to make it of him, but to keep it a secret 'till it was done.
As I needed photographs of him from every angle to make it accurate, I asked my fiddle students who came to our gigs, to photograph Martin whilst pretending to photograph me. These photos they'd then send to me and all thanks to them, they made this sculpture possible.
It took me over a year to complete and as one of his friends commented: "That's not just Martin's face, that's Martin's fiddle playing face." I was delighted.
Tragically, Martin died very suddenly just before I'd completed his sculpture so he never saw it or knew anything about it and I never saw the fiddle he was making me. I had his sculpture cast in bronze for his family and I want to send it out to the world now, to honour our friend and because it's a fine study if I say so myself, of good man lost in the music he loved. RIP
"I love this. There is something reassuringly grounded in the seated figure, and his profile conveys gentle thoughtfulness. Amazing skill in the way Gill's captured the tension in his legs, and the slight tilt leftwards.
He looks relaxed but intently focused.”
